In the middle of the college football season, all head coaches have their plates extremely full. Breaking down film, speaking with media, managing practices, and preparing for games are just a few things they have to take care of during the week. But one of the other tasks that head coaches have to take care of each week is voting in the Coaches Poll. And different teams have a different process of going about it. Penn State head coach James Franklin recently described his voting process.

“Yeah, it doesn’t vary a whole lot. Basically, I think Sunday mornings that’s gotta be in I think by 12 o’clock. Michael Hazel used to put this together for us. Now Will Reimann does that. Puts it together for us. We typically have the AP poll last week, the Coaches Poll, and then how we voted last week. And they’re usually always pretty consistent for the most part, to be honest with you,” Franklin explained.

“But I look at that and I look at the whoever lost that week. Whoever won that week that was in the Top 25. Who should come out of the Top 25. Who should go into the Top 25 based on the previous weeks. I’m also a big proponent of the Power Conferences. Just based on the competition they play week in and week out and the challenges that come with that. But for the most part, it’s very, very similar to what you see out there publicly. There’s very little differences between the AP Poll, the Coaches Poll, and our poll that we put out every single week,” Franklin finished.

The Penn State Nittany Lions have rattled off six straight wins to kick off the 2024 campaign. They’ll take on the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday, Oct. 26th. That one is slated for 7:30 PM EST on NBC and Peacock. Then, their biggest challenge of the year will come on Nov. 2nd, when they take on the Ohio State Buckeyes. That one is slated for Noon on FOX.

Penn State tight end Tyler Warren has enjoyed a breakout year thus far, hauling in 40 catches for 513 yards and four touchdowns. He’s been one of the best tight ends in all of college football. The Nittany Lions backfield continues to do damage, with both Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen rushing for over 400 yards already. PSU quarterback Drew Allar has taken a step forward in his development this year. He’s completed 70.5% of his passes for 1,492 passing yards, while tossing in 11 touchdowns and four interceptions.
