Ja’Marr Chase completes receiving triple-crown season, just 5th since AFL-NFL merger

Jerry Rice, Sterling Sharpe, Steve Smith Sr., Cooper Kupp and now Ja’Marr Chase.

The Cincinnati Bengals star, in his fourth year out of LSU, officially joined rare and elite company as an NFL triple-crown winner late Sunday as the final weekend of the regular season concluded.

Chase led the league in all three major receiving categories with 1,708 yards and 17 touchdowns on 127 catches — career-highs across the board.

He becomes only the fifth player since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 to complete the feat and, at 24 years old, the youngest to do so.

Chase, a New Orleans area native and Archbishop Rummel product, finished the season with a nice cushion across the board as well.

Former LSU teammate Justin Jefferson, of the Minnesota Vikings, finished second in the league with 1,533 yards.

Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions caught 115 passes and Terry McLaurin of the Washington Commanders caught 13 touchdowns to finish second in those categories.

Chase’s 17 touchdowns tie for No. 6 all-time on the NFL’s single-season list and most among triple-crown winners.

His 127 receptions are No. 9 all-time and 1,708 yards No. 14 all-time and both second among triple-crown winners to only Kupp’s 145 catches and 1,947 yards in 2021.
