Jackson State wide receiver Shane Hooks commits to Ole Miss
On Sunday, former Jackson State wide receiver Shane Hooks wrapped up an official visit at Ole Miss. The Rebels are one of the 6-foot-4, 205 pounder’s finalists along with Cincinnati, Colorado, Texas A&M and UNLV.
But upon leaving Oxford, Miss., he eliminated the other four finalists by announcing his commitment to Ole Miss.
The Olympia (Fla.) recruit originally signed with Ohio but opted to transfer to the SWAC program to play for now former head coach and NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. There he led the Tigers in receptions (64), receiving yards (748), and touchdowns (10) in 2022.
He grabbed at least two receptions in every game and multiple touchdown grabs in four games for the 12-1 conference champions.
Hooks was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 2076 overall recruit in the 2018 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average which utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Ole Miss signed Louisiana Tech’s Tre Harris and Texas A&M’s Chris Marshall in the portal. Shane Hooks is another big-bodied wideout who is proven.
He could be a go-to on the outside with his experience, length and playmaking ability. He has strong hands and is underrated after the catch in the openfield as a long-strider. I think it serves Ole Miss well at the position to have three large pass-catchers. It will help the inexperienced inside receivers get acclimated alongside JJ Henry and Dayton Wade.
