ITF EXTRA: Michigan football 2024 schedule could be brutal

The Big Ten is going to have a much different look next year, and so could Michigan depending on who stays and who leaves for the NFL. The new additions have the schedule makers working overtime to finalize next year’s slate, and know this — U-M fans displeased with this year’s weak slate won’t have anything to complain about next year.

Multiple sources have said the current plan, which could be announced soon, includes home games with Oregon, USC, Texas (in the non-conference) and Michigan State, and road games with Ohio State and probably Washington. The belief is that the networks want the Big Ten’s big dogs to play each other for a few years so they can get their money’s worth … which means Ohio State and probably Penn State will have loaded schedules next season, too.

We have also heard that next year’s Michigan slate won’t include Penn State, however. The Wolverines and Nittany Lions will play in Happy Valley this year in the 11th meeting in a row between the two teams.

Michigan was set to play Washington in a non-conference game in 2026, a return trip for the 2021 meeting between the two schools, but the Huskies’ addition to the conference will likely move that trip up.
