ITB Extra: Nation’s No. 1 safety locks in visit with Michigan

ITB Extra: Nation’s No. 1 safety locks in visit with Michigan

*** I reported last week that Michigan was pushing to get Top 100 Monroe (N.C.) High safety Jordan Young on campus this weekend. That visit obviously did not happen. However, Young is now scheduled to be in Ann Arbor on Monday. New Michigan secondary coach LaMar Morgan recently offered Young and is quickly developing a strong relationship with him. Morgan did a fantastic job of working with Young on his schedule and locking in a visit. Morgan is showing that he’s not afraid to go after the best and will give it a go with Young this week.

*** Yes, Michigan is making fellow North Carolina prospect JaDon Blair a top target, but Young is also extremely high on the board. Michigan would love to have both safeties in the class. Young has official visits set with Clemson, Florida State and Tennessee and is also considering other programs like Penn State and Texas A&M. Young, the No. 1 safety on On3, seems like more of a tough pull than Blair, but the Wolverines will be right in the thick of things now that this visit is happening. If Young enjoys his time in Ann Arbor, I would expect the Wolverines to get him back for an official visit in the summer.

*** Another safety that Morgan has been working on behind the scenes is On300 Tampa (Fla.) Berkely Prep prospect Dallas Golden. The two have been in communication in recent weeks, and Michigan would love to get him on campus at some point this offseason. Golden was once considered a Notre Dame lean. However, Florida State has emerged as the team to beat on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Miami recently hosted him for a visit and is also a player in this recruitment. It will be interesting to see if Morgan can make a move during the spring evaluation period.

*** Lastly, there is still no real clarity on Dawayne Galloway going into this week’s visit to Michigan. The On300 cornerback from Columbus (Ohio) Franklin loves Michigan and may be ready to pull the trigger soon. However, I’m continuing to hear that Michigan would like to see him in-person first. Obviously, Michigan will get a chance to size up Galloway on the visit. The trip will also give the new defensive staff a chance to get to know him personally. I’m not ruling out a verbal pledge here, but there are obviously moving parts.
