It wasn’t pretty, but Kentucky leads at the half — and we have Jaxson Robinson to thank for that

It feels like Kentucky is down by 85 and the Wildcats are 0-47 from three, Texas A&M hitting absolute junk after coming in as one of the worst shooting teams in college basketball. The Aggies rank No. 308 overall in 3-point efficiency and average five makes per game, but have somehow made SEVEN in the first half on 38.9 percent. Things could not have gone worse.

And Kentucky leads 35-32 at the break. Funny how all this stuff works, right?

There is a reason for that lead, and he goes by the name of Jaxson Robinson. Coming off a career performance in Starkville, the fifth-year senior is back at it again, leading the way with 15 points on 5-10 shooting and 4-9 from three with five rebounds and an assist in 16 minutes. He was cold to get rolling, starting 1-5 from deep before finishing the half 3-4.

As a team, the Cats are shooting just 34.5 percent overall (10-29) and 29.4 percent from three (5-17) with Ansley Almonor hitting the only other three en route to six points (1-1 FG, 3-3 FT). Andrew Carr also has six points (3-4 FG) while Lamont Butler has four (4-4 FT) and Amari Williams has two points, four rebounds and three assists.

Zhuric Phelps, inefficiency specialist, leads A&M with 11 points on 4-11 shots with five rebounds, followed by Manny Obaseki adding nine (3-7 FG).

Kentucky is winning the rebounding battle 20-19, though though Aggies have pulled down seven offensive rebounds. The good news? The Wildcats are 10-10 at the line while leading points in the paint 10-4 and assists 8-2.

Just need to make shots. 20 minutes to go.
