Is Alec Wick Iowa’s backup kicker?

Once upon a time, Iowa had Schlicher the kicker. Could the Hawkeyes possible see kicks from Wick this fall? The hope is that it doesn’t come to Alec Wick going back to his days at Iowa City Regina and kicking field goals, but it’s a possibility with backup kicker Aaron Blom involved in the sports gambling probe.

We caught up with Wick at Iowa football media day to discuss the possibility of him backing up Drew Stevens this year at placekicker. At this point, Wick says he has not practiced at the position, but he was told that on the internal depth chart, he’s the backup field goal kicker.

He talks about his reaction to the news and Wick is also contending for playing time at wide receiver this fall and has developed a pretty good relationship on and off the field with new starting quarterback Cade McNamara. He discusses their California training trip and more.
