Iowa watching emerging 2025 big man

The Iowa Hawkeyes have hit the state of South Dakota to recruit big men in the past. This spring they have begun to show some interest in an emerging 2025 prospect from Sioux Falls, including watching him at a recent workout.

The player in question is 2025 big man Griffen Goodbary. He’s a 6-foot-10 and 200 pound prospect that attends Sioux Falls Christian High School and played AAU basketball for Team Warwick on the Puma/NXT circuit. This past high school season he averaged 20 points and 7.2 rebounds, while shooting 54% from the floor and dishing out 2.5 assists per contest.

What’s unique about Goodbary is that just two years ago he was a 6-foot-3 freshman guard. In the last two years he has added seven inches to his frame, while still keeping his guard skills to his game.

“I haven’t always been this tall,” Goodbary said. “I feel pretty comfortable with the ball in my hands because I grew up playing guard. Now I try to use that to my advantage when I go against other big men.”

Since his growth spurt, Goodbary has started to gain traction with college programs. He has offers from South Dakota, South Dakota State, Augustana (SD), and he has generated interest from Iowa, Minnesota, and Iowa State.

Iowa recently visited Goodbary for one of his open gyms. Hawkeye assistant coach Matt Gatens was there and gave his thoughts after the open gym.

“He told me that he liked what he saw and that he thought I would fit with their program. He said that they would be keeping an eye on me in AAU this spring and summer.”

In addition to Iowa, Goodbary says that with the first spring live period approaching, he has been hearing from college coaches at the high major level to want his schedule so they can get out and evaluate him this month.
