Iowa Offense Snap Counts

Iowa’s offense was not able to get much of anything going on Saturday night with only 76 total yards and four first downs in a 31-0 loss at Penn State.

In this feature, we dive into the snap counts from Pro Football Focus to see how much each player was on the field for the Hawkeye offense.

Quarterback

Cade McNamara – 25 snaps

Deacon Hill – 9 snaps

Analysis: McNamara started his fourth straight game for the Hawkeyes this season, but was relieved by Deacon Hill in the fourth quarter after Penn State had already built a commanding lead. McNamara finished the game 5/14 passing for 42 yards, while Hill was 1/2 passing for 14 yards.

Running Back/Fullback

Leshon Williams – 18 snaps

Kamari Moulton – 11 snaps

Terrell Washington – 4 snaps

Hayden Large – 2 snaps

Analysis: With Kaleb Johnson and Jaziun Patterson out due to injury, Leshon Williams got the start for the Hawkeyes and had six carries for nine yards in the game. True freshmen Kamari Moulton and Terrell Washington also played. Moulton was Iowa’s leading rusher in the game with six carries for 18 yards.

Tight End

Erick All – 30 snaps

Steven Stilianos – 19 snaps

Addison Ostrenga – 6 snaps

Analysis: With Luke Lachey out due to injury, it was Erick All and Steven Stilianos starting the game for the Hawkeyes in their two tight end set. All was Iowa’s leading receiver in the game with three catches for 35 yards, but also had a crucial fumble in the first quarter. Stilianos and Ostrenga did not see any targets.

Wide Receiver

Diante Vines – 28 snaps

Seth Anderson – 27 snaps

Nico Ragaini – 18 snaps

Kaleb Brown – 5 snaps

Jarriett Buie – 2 snaps

Analysis: Vines and Anderson got the start again for the Hawkeyes and went most of the way. Ragaini saw the most targets of any Iowa wide receiver with two and had one catch for four yards. Vines finished with one catch for 14 yards and Anderson had one target, but no catches.

Offensive Line

Mason Richman – 34 snaps

Logan Jones – 34 snaps

Gennings Dunker – 34 snaps

Connor Colby – 28 snaps

Nick DeJong – 18 snaps

Rusty Feth – 16 snaps

Beau Stephens – 6 snaps

Analysis: It was a rough night for the Iowa offensive line, going up against a good Penn State defense. In the pass game, they gave up nine pressures including three sacks. Richman, Jones, and Dunker played the whole game at their respective positions, while DeJong and Feth continue to rotate at left guard and Stephens subbed in late for Colby at right guard.
