Iowa football hosts top transfer portal wide receiver

The Iowa football coaches have not made it a secret that they are looking to add at least one wide receiver during the spring transfer portal period.  On Wednesday, the name of their top current target was confirmed via a post on social media.

Kaleb Brown, who recently entered the NCAA transfer portal after one season at Ohio State, posted on his Instagram feed that he was on his official visit to Iowa City. A source close to the Iowa program confirmed the official visit and that starting quarterback Cade McNamara would be hosting the talented wide receiver.

Brown exited the Buckeye program on April 30th and is apparently moving quickly in his recruiting process. He arrived in Iowa City on Wednesday and will be in town until Thursday afternoon. From there he is likely to make more official visits with Texas A&M and Oklahoma as potential destinations.

Coming out of high school, Brown was a highly touted prospect. He was the No. 107 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to On3’s Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Overall he was a four star prospect out of St. Rita High School in the Chicago area.

In his freshman year, Brown had one reception for five yards and that was against Iowa. With the Buckeyes having a very crowded wide receiver room, he opted to look at his options via the transfer portal.

Iowa currently sits at one under the 85 scholarship limit, so they would have room to add a wide receiver. The Hawkeyes currently have seven scholarship receivers on their roster. Three of those scholarship players will be true freshmen this fall.

Thus far, Brown has not shared his timeline for making a decision on what school he will attend this fall.
