Iowa flips in-state basketball commitment

Ben McCollum continues to re-build the Iowa basketball roster. On Friday he officially added his first incoming freshman when he flipped in-state standout Trevin Jirak from a commitment to Northern Iowa to the University of Iowa.

Jirak had committed to the Panthers last fall, but when McCollum took the job he quickly moved in to get him to join the Hawkeye program. The 6-foot-11 center from West Des Moines Valley led them to three straight state titles in Class 4A in the state of Iowa.

He was named Mr. Basketball in the state of Iowa this year and was the first player who received that honor to attend Iowa since Pryce Sandfort in 2023. This season he averaged 16.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. He shot 59% from the floor and 38% from three point range in his senior year.

On3.com ranks him as a three star prospect in the Class of 2025.

McCollum and Iowa are now up to eight players on their roster with seven being on scholarship. The Hawkeyes are expected to add another incoming freshman to their roster and then continue to fill out the roster with players from the transfer portal.
