Intriguing DL prospect Tristan Johnson checks out Nebraska for spring practice
Versatility is a word thrown around since Matt Rhule became the Nebraska head coach and got to Lincoln. The Nebraska head coach is looking for it in specific places on the field, particularly on the lines. One of the most recent visitors, Tristan Johnson, from Hurst (Texas) LD Bell, could play inside and outside on the defensive line.
“I was at practice,” Johnson said. “I had a great time observing the intensity throughout practice and seeing what I can learn from the defensive line drills.”
The Nebraska staff can see Johnson playing inside and outside. He knows he must get to work anded to play far outside to do so develop his spe.
“The coaches see me playing a five-technique and possibly a nine-technique as well. I’m confident I can fit into that system. But the coaches and me agreed that in order to do that, I’ll have to increase my speed. I am going to be working over that in the coming months.”
Johnson got to tour the facilities following the practice and get a little look around. Johnson says that he was able to see the existing set of facilities and the future facilities in Nebraska.
“I was impressed by the current facilities and it looks like the new one will be improved,” Johnson said. “My favorite part was the weight room.”
The recent trip to Nebraska is part of a small spring tour that Johnson is making. He plans to head east before returning to Texas for a few more visits.
“This spring I’ve been to Texas State and Sam Houston State so far. This weekend I’m going to Drake and for the rest of this month, I have visits to North Texas, Princeton, and Lamar.”
