Intel: The latest on Notre Dame priority OT target Owen Strebig’s college football recruitment

College coaches flooded Owen Strebig’s phone on Aug. 1, the first day they could contact him permissibly. And Notre Dame has remained a mainstay in the 2025 four-star offensive tackle’s recruitment since then.
But the 6-foot-7, 295-pound Strebig is not fielding many phone calls these days. The Waukesha (Wisc.) Catholic Memorial product’s junior season is at the forefront, so his recruitment has taken a back seat.
After Blue & Gold watched Strebig, the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 75 overall player and No. 9 offensive tackle, dominate Milwaukee (Wisc.) Lutheran 47-0 on Thursday night, the sense is that the Fighting Irish are in the driver’s seat in this recruitment.
Strebig showed those in attendance just as much by wearing socks with the Notre Dame logo. He did not don any other school’s athletic wear besides his Catholic Memorial uniform.
Notre Dame has hosted Strebig, also the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 1 prospect in Wisconsin, on three unofficial visits since April. He’ll be back in South Bend later this month for the Ohio State game on Sept. 23.
Strebig has reported 20 unofficial college recruiting visits before this season. With his full attention on his 2023 campaign, college visits are not a priority. The Irish lucked out with their night game against the Buckeyes on Sept. 23, which allows Strebig to make it to his Saturday morning high school practice.
After his high school football season, he plans to visit Southern California for the UCLA game on Nov. 18. He’ll also head up the road to Madison for the Wisconsin vs. Buffalo game on Saturday afternoon.
With Strebig having reported three previous Wisconsin visits, the Southern California game seems like the biggest threat to the Irish. He’s already been to USC once but wants to see a game in the Coliseum.
Notre Dame still has plenty working in its favor. Strebig has an outstanding relationship with Irish O-line coach Joe Rudolph. Those close to him are impressed with his track record of developing college linemen into NFL Draft picks. Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has also made a strong impression on Strebig’s inter-circle.
Because his junior season is the priority, don’t expect Strebig to commit to college soon. He certainly has a few favorites but is in no rush to shut down his recruitment.
When Strebig picks a school, player development and academics will be the two biggest factors. His fit and feeling at a school will also play a role in helping him guide his decision. Like most high-profile recruits, Strebig has researched name, image and likeness (NIL) earning opportunities, but nothing beyond doing his due diligence.
The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) says the Irish have an 83% chance of landing his commitment. While behind the scenes, the race is tightening up, Notre Dame still looks to be in pole position with the three game day visits looming.
The Irish could cement themselves as the frontrunner with another good trip to South Bend. And after that, anything can happen.
