Intel on in-state Michigan commits and targets at SMSB 7v7 Showcase

** On300 Michigan defensive back commit Jacob Oden told The Wolverine on Thursday at the SoundMind SoundBody 7v7 Showcase at Wayne State University that he’ll attend the annual BBQ at The Big House. Oden, who competed at the event with Harper Woods (Mich.) High, also plans to show up for all seven home games this season. Efforts from Oden to land Top 100 Springfield (Ohio) High cornerback Aaron Scott are still at the highest degree as they talk daily over the phone.

*** On300 Michigan lInebacker commit Jeremiah Beasley is still determining if he’ll be available to head back to Ann Arbor on the final weekend of July for the barbecue. Beasley, who committed to the Wolverines on June 28, was last on campus for Victor’s Weekend to take his official visit. Much like Oden, Beasley is close with Scott and the 6-foot-0.5, 210-pounder is assisting with landing the No. 4 overall cornerback in the country.

*** Three-star University of Detroit (Mich.) Jesuit wide receiver Elijah Dotson will be at Michigan on July 29-30 for the barbecue. The Wolverines entered the mix for the track All-American in May when co-defensive coordinator Steve Clinkscale checked out one of the 6-foot-2, 175-pounder’s spring workouts. Dotson will get more plays on defense in his junior campaign and the secondary is where Clinkscale sees him fitting best for Michigan. Dotson made his first-ever visit to Ann Arbor this past April.

*** Elite 2026 Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech athlete CJ Sadler plans to return to Michigan and Michigan State in the fall. He likely won’t visit any school later this month and, instead, focus solely on team development and chemistry. Sadler visited for the Michigan State and Penn State games last season and looks forward to building close connections with everyone on the U-M coaching staff.

*** Fast-rising 2026 Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech two-way lineman Khalief Canty was in midtown Detroit for the 7v7 showcase to support his teammates. Canty has been to Michigan for three unofficial visits this offseason, including three weeks ago. He holds a close friendship with Raheem Anderson and has appreciated the talks made with offensive line coach Sherrone Moore. Heading into his sophomore season, Canty said that the Wolverines and Michigan State stand out.

*** Four-star Detroit (Mich.) King tight end Xavier Newsom has been to Michigan three times since January and has been communicating with tight ends coach Grant Newsome and Clinkscale. Newsom is one of the more intriguing in-state prospects in the 2025 class because of his ceiling physically. At 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, schools are monitoring him at both tight end and EDGE. Newsom doesn’t have a preference but receives plenty of offense reps on the 7v7 circuit. He wants to watch a game at The Big House once the season starts.

*** Oden’s little cousin, 2027 Harper Woods (Mich.) High athlete Dakota Guerrant, has picked up four early offers from Michigan, Toledo, Central Michigan and UMass. Guerrant is just beginning the process but has garnered considerable information about the Wolverines because of his family connections. Rod Oden, the head coach of Harper Woods, is a U-M graduate. Clinkscale issued the offer to Guerrant in May and the two are starting to break bread. Guerrant is looking to return soon. His first visit occurred in late March.
