Intel around 2024 LB Devin Smith and LSU
LSU is gearing up for a top target to make his decision at the end of September. What’s the latest intel around that 2024 recruit?
*** Peach State LB Devin Smith set his commitment date for Sept. 22, which looks like it could be the day he heads to LSU for an official visit, I’m told. The Tigers hosted him for Bayou Splash and left that weekend as the team to beat. Kentucky did just host him though and made a good impression on him. That said, he’s still got an official visit in the works with LSU. We could see this one go LSU’s way and him show up as a commitment. It’s a bit more of a battle than when LSU left the July visit though.
They knew his decision was coming around late September and have been recruiting him hard. He’s more of a high-upside guy that they like. LSU’s side of things still has confidence so we’ll be tracking this one as it gets closer to his decision date.
*** LSU does have four linebackers committed in Xavier Atkins, Kolaj Cobbins, Davhon Keys and Tylen Singleton. All play very different roles. Atkins and Keys are true MLBs, Cobbins is a JACK and Singleton is a cover LB. They’d love to add Smith into the fold as well and will keep pressing for him. With this visit planned, that’s a good sign. Smith doesn’t say much on his recruitment, but LSU and Kentucky are his final two. We’ll see if LSU can swing back there after the Wildcats impressed with a visit. The reality is he’s a strong want for LSU while he’d be a crown jewel of Kentucky’s class.
We’ll keep you guys updated as far as what we hear, but I left my conversations feeling good about the Tigers and Smith.
