— Everything we have picked up leads us to believe that the Tennessee Volunteers are currently in pole position for five-star David Sanders.
The North Carolina offensive tackle took his official visit to South Carolina back in April and heads to Clemson, his childhood favorite, this weekend.
On3’s Chad Simmons spoke with Sanders this week and came away with the sense that the Vols, Clemson, Georgia, and Ohio State are setting the pace in this recruitment.

Here’s what Sanders told On3 about the Gamecocks:
“They’re still in it, for sure. It’s very close to home and my family is my biggest thing. I would still put them in it, I love Coach (Lonnie) Teasley and everything they stand for. Josiah Thompson, Kam Pringle, those are two guys that just came in in the 24 class and they’ve been very successful, I watched them in the spring game, they’re out there starting, so that just goes to show that you can go in there, do you what you’ve got to do and you can be very successful. I would still put them in it, it’s just that they got the early visit, cause there’s only so many weekends in June.”
As we have noted, it is worth monitoring whether or not Sanders could opt to take another unofficial visit to Columbia this summer.
Right now, we think the Vols are in the lead and that some others are probably also ahead of South Carolina.
— Marquel Blackwell recently extended a couple of offers of interest in the state of Florida.
One went out to Jershaun Newton, a high school quarterback for his Clearwater Central Catholic (Florida) team. He also even lined up at defensive end last season.
He has an official visit lined up for this summer to Illinois, where his brother, Jer’Zhan, played before heading to the NFL.
Newton also has three other brothers who play college football at Toledo and Mars Hill, so this is a full-fledged football family.
It’s our understanding that the Gamecocks are intrigued by Newton as a running back.
— South Carolina also sent out an offer to 2025 running back Sean Cuono from Calvary Christian in Clearwater, Florida.
Auburn also offered here, and Cuono has expressed that he may take some visits this summer. Let’s see if one materializes to Columbia.
— Another reminder on the running back position: South Carolina will host highly productive Virginia running back Jeffrey Overton for an official visit this weekend.
After the trip to Columbia, he has trips lined up to Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia Tech.
We all know that the Gamecocks have had success in the state of Virginia under Shane Beamer. The sense is that we could see USC make a move with Overton after this weekend.
