*** Up until Keylen Adams’ official visit to Virginia Tech, there were plenty of reasons to feel quite confident about where the Gamecocks stood for him.
The four-star pass-catcher was in Columbia on June 2, which doubled as South Carolina’s first prospect camp day of the summer. While in town, he worked out with Dante Reno and Mazeo Bennett and spent plenty of time around the program.
We entered an On3 RPM pick in favor of USC that same day.
Interestingly, an official visit to Alabama did not really move the needle; it was just expected that Adams wanted to take that trip before he decided. He took one to Virginia Tech, and that’s when things seemed to change.
The feedback has been mixed since that weekend, which is what prompted a June 27 post on The Insiders Forum letting Gamecocks fans know that the Hokies had made a major push.
It’s seemed to go back and forth a bit behind the scenes since then, but it could be argued that Virginia Tech holds the advantage. Multiple sources feel this one is either a toss-up or that VT has the edge.
His decision date is planned for July 13.
If Adams does indeed commit to the Hokies, it could be a situation that we are still monitoring into the season. Notably, he has not yet used an allotted official visit to South Carolina, which he’s said in the past he would take this season.

*** The Gamecocks have been locked in a race with Alabama to land four-star running back Daniel Hill, who was last in town for his official visit the weekend of June 23.
USC’s been in a good spot here for a while but has to get to the finish line. Nick Saban’s program has had Hill on the board as a take but seems to have turned the heat up this summer.
A key question in this recruitment has been whether or not Hill would render a decision in July, as he’s been leaning toward doing, or extend it into the season. For South Carolina, an earlier decision would probably be better.
We have a small – but not insignificant – update on Hill’s thinking.
He told GamecockCentral.com on Sunday that he was not sure if he was moving closer to a decision. In other words, it’s still not certain if he’ll commit in July.
He also confirmed to us that it’s, unsurprisingly, a tough choice.
Of course, it’s still possible Hill gets to his decision sometime this month, or otherwise before the season.
USC certainly has a good shot to pull this one off, but it remains a battle.
