— Chad Simmons of On3 recently talked with one of the top 2025 targets for the Gamecocks staff: Georgia tight end Ethan Barbour.

It will come as no surprise to read that the competition for Barbour’s services is stiff. In addition to in-state Georgia, a host of out-of-state blue bloods are vying for the Alpharetta standout.

“I really like what coach (Shane) Beamer is doing up there, he’s turning that program around,” Barbour told Simmons. “When I visited up there this spring, coach (Jody) Wright was a really cool guy. He had great vibes. He’s a family kind of guy. He showed me what they’re doing with the tight ends. They catch the ball a lot as tight ends. They’re like Georgia, they block and catch the ball. You have to be versatile. I like what they’re doing with the tight ends up there.”

— Mississippi linebacker Jamonta Waller has been to South Carolina’s campus previously and now has four official visits set for the summer.

USC is not currently one of them, but the program is vying for his fifth. Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and Penn State are the current recipients.

According to Waller’s conversation with On3’s Sam Spiegelman, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas A&M are all under consideration for a fifth visit.

The Aggies seem to have more buzz about getting it.

— On3 national reporter Matt Zenitz is anticipating that Notre Dame transfer running back Logan Diggs takes an official visit to home-state LSU this weekend.

“Notre Dame running back transfer Logan Diggs is set to take an official visit to LSU this weekend. Although Diggs took recent visits to South Carolina and Ole Miss, LSU continues to look like the favorite to land the Louisiana native,” said Zenitz.

We have passed along that Diggs’ initial entry into the transfer portal had the appearance of a move with intentions; that being a return home and reuniting with Brian Kelly.

South Carolina’s official visit has certainly given Diggs something to think about, particularly with the Gamecocks’ depth chart at the position.

We’ll need to let the LSU visit take place in order to gather more feedback.

— Let’s close out this edition with a nugget on the nation’s number one prospect in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Elijah Griffin has been favoring Georgia and South Carolina publicly, and he had built a good relationship with now-departed defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey.

That begged the question as to what type of effect Lindsey’s leaving could have on this tightly-contested recruitment. Shane Beamer’s up against Kirby Smart and Nick Saban, among others, on this one.

Time will tell, but we can report to Gamecocks fans that new USC defensive line coach Travian Robertson has made contact with Griffin.

Area recruiter Jody Wright has also been by Savannah Christian Prep to check in on Griffin (and teammate Logan Brooking) during the spring evaluation period.

We anticipate there’s a good chance that Griffin is back on USC’s campus this month or the next to have an opportunity to sit down with Robertson in person.
