In-state cornerback Tevis Metcalf visits Auburn for A-Day, will return for official visit
In-state cornerback Tevis Metcalf visited Auburn again on Saturday. It was Metcalf’s third known visit to the Plains this calendar year.
Metcalf, who has transferred from Pinson Valley to Parker in Birmingham, Ala, visited for the Tigers’ Junior Day in January and returned in March to watch practice. On Saturday, he attended the A-Day game.
“It went pretty well,” he said. “It was good to see Coach (Hugh) Freeze and get to talk to him and Coach (Zac) Etheridge.”
Metcalf and the other recruits/visitors didn’t get to see much action from the Tigers. The weather was less than cooperative. However, he did visit for a practice in March and said then that he liked what he saw.
“I love the energy,” Metcalf said in March. “When I got out there, they were just getting at it. They were competing and I love how they rotate the DBs. It was a pretty good experience.
“You get to see a little bit of how they coach, but actually in person seeing, do they make mistakes, do they correct them.”
Metcalf’s visit to Auburn on Saturday came one day after he released his top group of schools. The schools making his top four include Auburn, Arkansas, Georgia Tech and Colorado. He’s visited Auburn, Arkansas and Georgia Tech. A trip to Colorado will happen soon.
“I’m going to their spring game (April 22),” he said.
Metcalf talks often with Auburn
Metcalf communicates often with Auburn, whether it be Etheridge or Trovon Reed, director of football and player relations.
“I talk to Auburn every other day,” he said. “I talk to Coach Etheridge and Coach T-Reed. Coach T-Reed is a pretty cool guy. He shows that he wants me and wants to recruit me.”
Metcalf hopes to take some official visits during the summer and have a commitment before the fall.
“I’m thinking of committing before my senior season,” he said. “Not for sure, though. If (Auburn) allows me to do (an official visit in the summer), then yes, maybe in June. I know I will probably take one to Arkansas in June.”
Metcalf, who is listed at 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, is ranked the No. 94 cornerback in the country and No. 37 overall recruit in Alabama, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, an industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Auburn currently is the frontrunner in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 65.5%, followed by Arkansas at 29.3%.
