IN REAL TIME: Florida Gators official visit weekend blog

It’s officially official visit season in Gainesville.

Beginning Friday, the Florida Gators will host 14 official visitors over the next three days in the start of a busy three-weekend stretch. And Gators Online is going to cover these visits from start to finish, with news, notes, intel, photos and video from what should be an action-packed period for coach Billy Napier’s program.

Below, we’ve listed the recruits expected to arrive on campus Friday. Additionally, we will provide significant moments and/or intel from the weekend in this article. But much of the action will take place in Swamp Talk, our thriving message board community at Gators Online. You can find that thread HERE.

Florida recruiting took off last year at this time. Can the Gators repeat that success in 2024?

We’re about to find out!

Gators Online news & notes from the weekend

*This will be updated as information becomes available.

*12:39 a.m. FRIDAY: Talked to someone close to 3-star DL target Jarquez Carter of Newberry (Fla.) on Thursday and they seem to think the Gators and defensive line coach Gerald Chatman made some real progress in this recruitment the past couple months. Chatman was at Newberry for the first day of NHS practice and that got Jarquez’s attention.

*12:35 a.m. FRIDAY: Four-star receiver Joshua Moore, one of this weekend’s visitors, might be the best player in the state many people haven’t heard of. He’s a big target at over 6-foot-3 and he’s a guy we’ve been told Florida likes a lot. Entering this visit, though, we think the most chatter is about FSU and Georgia. Seems like Florida is playing from behind here. Might need a big weekend.

*12:25 a.m. FRIDAY: Four-star safety target Jaylan Morgan of Tennessee, who visits the Gators this weekend, revealed a top six Thursday night of Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Purdue.

*12:20 a.m. FRIDAY: There was a new development in the recruitment of 3-star TE/ATH Tae’shaun Gelsey of Jacksonville (Fla.) Riverside on Thursday night. He added a new official visit to his schedule: Tulane on June 20. He’ll be in G’ville this weekend. Gelsey seems to be Florida’s to lose right now. He wants to announce his decision in July. The Gators are likely to take two tight ends in the class.

*12:15 a.m. FRIDAY: We’re hearing that — as of now — it’s unlikely FSU quarterback commit Tramell Jones will officially visit the Gators this summer. Instead, an emerging plan is for him to likely do a trip to Gainesville this fall. A couple of sources say he may like the idea of watching UF play some this upcoming season. Initially, it was thought he would officially to Florida on June 14.  Obviously, things are subject to change (again).
