Impact for Iowa adding KJ Parker

The recruiting run continues for the Iowa football team. On Thursday, the Hawkeyes added their second wide receiver prospect in the Class of 2024 in the last week when KJ Parker verbally committed to Iowa.

The three star wide receiver picked Iowa over Cincinnati, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Northern Illinois, Toledo, and several other mid-major schools. He joins in-state standout Reese Vander Zee as receiver commits to the Hawkeyes.

On our recruiting hot board, we have Iowa likely to take three wide receivers in this class. However, at this point, the Hawkeyes are likely to hit pause for the time being on pushing for commitments. It is worth noting that Iowa is scheduled to host three star wide receiver Jayquan Reid. The Florida native will be on campus the weekend of September 15th for his official visit with the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine indicating Iowa as the favorite.

What’s impact on Iowa football after landing Parker?

First, it gets Iowa really into a top flight Chicago area high school. The Hawkeyes have had an in there with former Iowa player Matt Bowen on the coaching staff at IC Catholic. He brought a large group of players to Iowa City for the final spring practice, including Parker.

There is a good chance that IC Catholic is going to be producing quite a few high D1 players in the future, so landing a player and potentially seeing them have success on the field will certainly help Iowa.

On film, Parker plays bigger than his size. He’s continued to fill out and is willing to go into the air to make plays. He has a good feel for route running and his speed is close to high end breakaway level.

Overall, it feels like there’s a chance that Parker could end up contending for playing time early on in his career. He has a very intriguing feel and given Iowa’s needs at the position, having an impact as a true freshmen isn’t out of the question.
