Hurricanes offer top-50 2025 OL who is planning on late July visit: “Miami is up there”

Miami first reached out to Owen Strebig several weeks ago, which caught the 2025 top-50 offensive lineman’s attention. But when the Hurricanes formally offered the No. 40 national recruit in late June, they cemented their place on his radar.

Strebig, a 6-foot-7, 295-pound offensive tackle from Waukesha (Wisc.) Catholic Memorial, is the No. 5 offensive tackle in the On300 and the No. 69 prospect and No. 10 offensive tackle in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. The Hurricanes took note of Strebig’s natural size and talent, and he plans to take his first unofficial visit to Coral Gables July 27.

“(Offensive line coach Alex) Mirabal was the one who offered me,” Strebig said. “I was very thankful. First thing I asked was when can I get onto campus.”

Strebig had previously spoken with Miami offensive quality control analyst Edwin Pata, an off-field offensive line assistant, who told him the Hurricanes were excited about his interest in the program and wanted to bring him to Coral Gables. He added he talks to Miami’s staff “a good amount, but it is tough with all of the rules” that limit the ways coaches can contact underclassmen recruits.

“I am definitely interested,” Strebig said. “I really wanted to get onto campus and meet all the coaches, so I can further (understand) my feelings about the school. …It’s a program with a good history. It’s also a program on the rise.”

Notre Dame, USC and Florida are also high on Strebig’s radar, and he’s visited all three programs in 2023. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Iowa and Illinois as having the best chances to land the four-star prospect early on. He’s visited the Badgers three times and the Fighting Irish and Hawkeyes twice.

He said Notre Dame, Penn State and Florida State are speaking to him the most.

“Miami is up there, the visit will determine where it falls in my top schools,” Strebig said. “I want to see what type of people (Miami) has. I also want to make sure its a good fit for me, hopefully I’m able to talk with some current players.”

He said a school’s academic standing and degree a university can give him for life after football, his relationships with coaching staffs and player development will be his primary factors in his recruitment.

CaneSport’s Take

Miami won’t waste any time once the dead period ends July 25 and will have plenty of major talent on campus later that week. The final week of the month is shaping up to be a major recruiting week with plenty of focus on 2025 and 2026 prospects.
