How much NC State coach Kevin Keatts made from the Final Four run

GLENDALE, Ariz. — NC State’s magical run through the NCAA Tournament came to a close in the Final Four with a 63-50 loss to No.1-seed Purdue on Saturday night at State Farm Stadium. Though the Wolfpack’s season ended, coach Kevin Keatts had a fruitful month of bonuses during the month-long sprint. 

The seventh-year coach, in all, earned $300,000 in bonuses, plus a two-year extension with a $500,000 raise as the Wolfpack raced to the Final Four, according to his contract that was obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request. 

Keatts, who seemed to be on the hot seat entering the postseason, helped engineer a historic turnaround in the elimination-game setting. The Wolfpack won nine straight games, including five in as many days to claim the ACC Tournament championship in Washington, D.C.

The Wolfpack’s first conference crown since 1987 earned Keatts the two-year extension, a $400,000 raise starting next season, and a $100,000 bonus that has to be paid by June 30. 

And when NC State caught fire in the NCAA Tournament, Keatts’ paycheck continued to grow larger with each win. 

Keatts earned $200,000 in bonuses for the Wolfpack’s appearance in the Final Four. That total is also due to be paid by June 30. In addition to those bonuses, Keatts earned another $100,000 raise, which will start next season. 

The coach is set to make $3.2 million annually beginning during the 2024-25 campaign and his contract runs through the 2030 season. 

While NC State’s dash through the NCAA Tournament is over, Keatts still has a maximum of $100,000 in bonuses left to make. If the Wolfpack finishes the season in the top 10 in either the Associated Press or Coaches Poll after the national championship game, he will earn $100,000. If the Pack is in the top 25 in either ranking poll, then Keatts will walk away with a $50,000 bonus. 

NC State finished the season 26-15, the most wins in a campaign under Keatts in his seven years leading the Wolfpack.
