Houston Kaahaaina-Torres wants to make it back to Nebraska this fall for a game

Houston Kaahaaina-Torres wants to make it back to Nebraska this fall for a game

In April, Houston Kaahaaina-Torres went to Nebraska to check out a scrimmage and see what the Huskers have to offer. The No. 1 player in Hawaii for the class of 2025 wants to get back to Lincoln this fall to check out a game and see what it’s like during a home game weekend. Kaahaaina-Torres wants to help Nebraska get back on top again.

Kaahaaina-Torres is the No. 1 rated player in Hawaii in the 2025 class. He worked hard this summer trying to adjust to the tackle position.

“I worked on my run blocking since last season,” Kaahaaina-Torres said. “I feel like I have been performing well, and I have been keeping the edge out at tackle. I think that the team is doing good. We have improved on all of our weaknesses.”

Hard work paying off for Houston Kaahaaina-Torres

The move inside-out for Kaahaaina-Torres is a work in progress. He played center last year and is working at right tackle his junior year. He thinks he’s getting the hang of it but admits it’s very different from playing on the interior.

“It’s a new experience for me fighting guys alone out on the island. I am playing right tackle this year and played center the year before. I feel like I have been getting the hang of it and learning the technique.”

Kaahaaina-Torres was able to take some trips this spring and summer. He was on the mainland to see a few schools and won MVP at a local elite camp this summer.

“I visited Texas for their elite camp and was up the west coast from Oregon to Washington. I also did the UnderArmour Elite camp in Maui and won the MVP.”

The Nebraska staff is pushing hard for Kaahaaina-Torres. Nebraska is trying to get Kaahaaina-Torres to visit Lincoln this fall for a game. He knows that he will need to visit on his bye weekend and that it will be expensive. He thinks it will be worth it.

“We really hope to see a home game at Nebraska,” Kaahaaina-Torres said. “We want to see that type of culture. It’s a long trip, but I feel like it would be worth the effort.”

Houston Kaahaaina-Torres could visit Nebraska this fall

If Kaahaaina-Torres gets to Nebraska this fall, it will be his second visit to Lincoln. He was there in the spring and could see the Huskers scrimmage. He’s been in regular contact with the staff, including a recent call from the head coach wishing him luck for his game.

“I have visited Nebraska before. It was this past April for a scrimmage. I have been getting comfortable with the Nebraska staff. I have been talking a lot with Keith Williams and staying in contact with coach Raiola. Coach Rhule called me before my pre-season game to give me some tips. It was an honor to get that call.”

Preston Taumua is the No. 1 player in Hawaii in the 2024 class and is committed to Nebraska. Kaahaaina-Torres knows that the Huskers are targeting the best players from Hawaii to come to Nebraska, and he likes the idea of getting the Huskers back on top.

“I am inspired to start that up again and just to put Nebraska back on top again,” Kaahaaina-Torres said.
