Hot Board: Sooners Commits
For several months it has felt like things have been building for the Sooners. And with five commitments in the last two weeks it would be easy to think the crescendo has been reached. However, it feels as though there is plenty to left to happen this summer, including knowing their fate with many of their top-ranked offers. Now we take a look at the players that seem the closest to a decision and where Oklahoma is with many they are in strong shape for.
11. Caden Durham – 2024 – RB – Duncanville, Texas
Breakdown: Following his visit to the ChampUBBQ it felt like Durham might pull the trigger at any moment. But in something of an upset LSU was able to get him on campus the following weekend and keep this battle ongoing. Still though, it wouldn’t come as a shock to anyone if Durham suddenly ended things.
Sooners Chances: The Sooners clearly feel like the leader at this point but LSU isn’t going away easily.
Timeline: Any month now.
10. Devon Jordan – 2024 – DB – Tulsa Union
Breakdown: Jordan has been one of the more quiet prospects to come from Oklahoma in recent years. He may not say a lot but he’s been on the road this summer taking trips to Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State.
Sooners Chances: Jordan has been a tough one to read but Oklahoma doesn’t lose many in-state battles and hasn’t lost at Union in more than 15 years.
Timeline: Any week now.
9. Eli Bowen – 2024 – CB – Denton (Texas) Guyer
Breakdown: Bowen has kept a quiet recruitment in recent months. That said, some of that may be due to many thinking they know what Bowen will do. The Sooners have made a priority of him since very early in his junior year but Texas, among others, are trying to make this more interesting than many have expected.
Sooners Chances: The Sooners seem to have a considerable lead.
Timeline: Any week now.
8. Mykel Patterson-McDonald – 2024 – S – Moore (Okla.) Westmoore
Breakdown: Patterson-McDonald has been busy this summer and the Sooners are doing all they can to keep out in front of things. His close relationship with several other Key Oklahoma recruits figures to make for an interesting storyline to watch.
Sooners Chances: It’s hard to imagine a scenario where the Sooners legacy doesn’t end up in Norman.
Timeline: Patterson-McDonald will announce on Monday, July 31.
7. Brayden Platt – 2024 – LB – Yelm, Wash.
Breakdown: Oklahoma has done impressive work and impressed Platt on the two trips he’s taken since the spring. Still though Oregon has long been seen as the favorite but the more time that lapses from his Eugene official visit seems to bode well for the Sooners.
Sooners Chances: Oregon has to be thought of as the favorite here but the Sooners are making it tighter than I expected they could.
Timeline: Any day now.
6. Williams Nwaneri – 2024 – DL – Lee’s Summit (Mo.) North
Breakdown: Oklahoma hasn’t landed a defensive lineman ranked so highly in the modern recruiting era. That includes names like Gerald McCoy and Tommie Harris. The big-time defender seems to be down to Oklahoma and Georgia with the Bulldogs making a late run.
Sooners Chances: This feels like a coin flip to be honest but the Sooners consistency and relationships in his recruitment might give them a very slight edge.
Timeline: Any day now.
5. David Stone – 2024 – DL – Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy
Breakdown: Few players could be considered more vital to Oklahoma’s 2024 class than the big man from East Oklahoma City. Stone has been to Oklahoma’s campus literally dozens of times and the Sooners need to close him over Michigan State, Florida, and Miami.
Sooners Chances: Oklahoma seems to have a considerable lead at the moment.
Timeline: Any day now.
4. Davon Mitchell – 2025 – TE – Los Alamitos, Calif.
Breakdown: Mitchell has been thought of as an Oklahoma lean for a long time now but it’s clear Miami is making things interesting over the last few weeks. Alabama has also done all they can to impress the elite tight end.
Sooners Chances: His relationship with his former Allen, Texas teammate Michael Hawkins is a huge factor in the Sooners lead.
Timeline: Mitchell will announce on Sat., July 8.
3. Zion Ragins – 2024 – WR – Gray (Ga.) Jones County
Breakdown: Since taking his Oklahoma official visit on July 9 there have been several weeks of concern. However, following each visit it seemed as though the Sooners remained on top.
Sooners Chances: Ragins could throw a curveball but it certainly feels as though Oklahoma leads.
Timeline: Any day now.
2. Michael Boganowski – 2024 – S – Junction City, Kan.
Breakdown: Boganowski has been a two-horse race for a while. While the Sooners track record in Kansas is hard to overlook he is a Kansas State legacy. He’s taken official visits to both and is now simply left to decide.
Sooners Chances: Oklahoma feels like the leader but it’s definitely a tight face with neither outcome surprising.
Timeline: Any hour now.
1. Taylor Tatum – 2024 – RB – Longview, Texas
Breakdown: Tatum is one of the most interesting recruitments in recent memory as it’s not just staff against staff. It’s multiple staffs – baseball and football – at both USC and Oklahoma doing battle. The Sooners baseball program is doing some very real work for the promising two-sport star.
Sooners Chances: Oklahoma definitely feels like the leader at the moment but USC is pushing hard.
Timeline: Any hour now.
