High school coaches talk new Gamecocks pledges

On the strength of a big week on the trail, the South Carolina Gamecocks are back in the top five nationally according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
Wednesday began with a verbal commitment from in-state, four-star defensive back Kelvin Hunter.
Up next with a commitment was DMV-area offensive lineman Mike Williams, whose teammate, four-star defender Braydon Lee, followed suit that afternoon.
GamecockCentral.com spoke with the high school coaches of each new commitment to get more insight on their game and what they will eventually bring to the USC program.

West Florence (South Carolina) head coach Jody Jenerette on defensive back Kelvin Hunter
Kelvin has legit, top-end SEC speed. He’s a really physical player. We need him in the box at our level, but he can without a doubt backpedal and cover when called upon to do it. He probably projects as a nickel type on Saturdays.
He will need to get stronger and fill out, but he may get on the field early because of his uncanny ability to block punts. He blocked six last season.
Springdale (Maryland) Charles Herbert Flowers head coach Dameon Powell on offensive lineman Mike Williams
Mike’s a very hard worker. He lost a lot of weight. He’s been working his butt off. He can move very well, he’s fluid in his movement. He can bend. He’s very aggressive on the field. He finishes his blocks very well.
Pass blocking, that’s kind of his specialty. He does a good job moving his feet. We’re very excited about him. I think he’s going to transition to college very good. We want to see him put a little more muscle on it, but with his work ethic, he’ll be just fine.
I think he can play both. He can be interchangeable at guard and tackle. He has the length to play tackle, but I think he could excel at guard, too.
Dameon Powell on defensive back Braydon Lee
Braydon, his IQ, he’s just a baller. When he steps on the field he kind of locks everything down. Very smart, that’s the biggest thing about him. His ball skills are tremendous.
He’s been playing football all his life, so it just comes natural to him.
