Heather Dinich lays out critical stakes in Georgia vs. Georgia Tech for Miami
Clean Old Fashioned Hate might be set to impact more than just Georgia and Georgia Tech. ESPN’s Heather Dinich believes Miami should be closing watching Friday night’s game from Athens. This is, of course, looking through a College Football Playoff scope.
Dinich explains how the committee could make a decision about seeding pending the rivalry game’s result. Georgia and Miami will soon share Georgia Tech as a common opponent. But the lone issue — the Yellow Jackets are the lone loss on the resume of Mario Cristobal‘s team.
If Georgia can get an in-state win, Dinich sees a world where they jump Miami ahead of conference championship week.
“Another thing to watch moving forward with rivalry week,” Dinich began. “Georgia playing a common opponent with Miami in Georgia Tech, the one team they lost to. Georgia beats Georgia Tech, is that enough for the committee to flip them? Does it really matter? It could matter for seeding if Georgia plays Texas, loses to Texas in the SEC Championship, gets in as an at-large bid.”
There is another common opponent between Miami and Georgia this season — Florida. A dominating season opener win in the Swamp was where the Hurricanes got their momentum rolling. The same cannot be said about Georgia, who struggled to put away Florida in Jacksonville despite multiple quarterback injuries.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET between the hedges. This has been a series dominated by Georgia in recent years, not losing since the first year of Kirby Smart. You know people in Gold would have to get one over the Bulldogs and continue the program’s great run.
Miami has its own game to worry about. A win against Syracuse is required in order to make the ACC Championship game. A loss effectively ends the season and eliminates any kind of long-term goals they had previously set.
Even so, Dinich says Hurricane fans should be tuning in to ABC on Friday night to get a good comparison.
