‘He is Awesome’ … 5-Star OL Petty raves about Atkins and FSU, previews official visit

Five-star interior offensive lineman Josh Petty visited Florida State for the first time this spring, and he has already locked in an official visit with the Seminoles for the June 21 weekend.
As for why Florida State is one of his seven official visits scheduled, the five-star target told Warchant it was due to his love of both head coach Mike Norvell and offensive coordinator Alex Atkins.
When it comes to what he will be looking for at the end of June, Petty mentioned “team synergy” and “academics.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, the 6-foot-4, 265-pound recruit is the No. 21 prospect nationally in the 2025 class. He is also ranked No. 2 at his position and a top-five prospect in Georgia.
While Petty loves Norvell’s energy, Atkins has been the main figure in his recruitment.
“He is awesome,” Petty said of Florida State’s offensive line coach. “He is very smart and understands how to develop talent.”
Florida State has been trending recently to land the top OL recruit. This is due partly to a pick in the Recruiting Prediction Machine from On3’s VP of recruiting and transfer portal, Steve Wiltfong.
Last Monday, Wiltfong predicted Josh Petty to go to Florida State with a 60 percent confidence. That is still the only expert pick that has been placed in Petty’s recruitment.
FSU now leads for Petty on the RPM, with Georgia Tech and Tennessee as the two schools right behind.

Petty, a native of Roswell, Ga., also stated that every school he is considering has something unique.
“Each school has special features. FSU has a strong NCAA Football history,” Petty stated.
The talented lineman then added that the Seminoles have other things weighing in their favor.
“Coaching, academics, development, energy, and my sister will be attending as a freshman this fall,” he said.
Petty will take six other official visits besides Florida State.
Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Clemson, Auburn, Oregon and Stanford will all get their shot at landing the five-star. However, Florida State will get the last visit before the recruiting dead period starts the last week of June.
