‘He has a hunger and desire to be great’: Ole Miss signee Jamarious Brown has reported to Oxford and is a name to know

Moss Point (Miss.) defensive lineman Jamarious Brown has officially reported to campus. The On3 Industry Ranking four-star prospect committed to the Rebels early in the process and stuck to his word, signing with the Rebels in December.
The 6-foot-2, 270 pound in-state recruit was one of defensive line coach Randall Joyner’s prized signees in last year’s class. And needless to say, the Ole Miss staffer is extremely excited to get to work with him.
“He’s a special young man it’s his mentality. He has a hunger and desire to be great,” Joyner said. “He is a very gifted athlete, his best ball is ahead of him.”
At Moss Point (Miss.) he was a terror up front on defense and even played running back on offense. Joyner seems to have a type: ultra-productive guys who play fast and are athletic.
“I’m very, very excited and blessed to be able to coach him,” Joyner said. “He is physically gifted, a guy that can play quarterback, running back and all spots on the defensive line.”

Brown walks around close to 6-foot-2 and 270 pounds but he doesn’t look it. Scouts say he is “fluid and explosive” and moves well for a guy close to 300 pounds. Cracking the two-deep as a true freshman is a tall task in the SEC but Brown could be the one to get it done. He’s a little bit thicker but he reminds me a bit of former Ole Miss defensive lineman Issac Gross. Joyner has a different player in mind, though.
“He reminds me a lot of JJ Pegues,” Joyner said. “A really, really great football player coming out of high school but once he focuses on one position he is going to take off.”
He counters a lack of elite measurables with a quick first step and a devastating punch. This quickness and strength pairs nicely when going up against taller offensive lineman due to his ability to parlay leverage into the equation.
I’m personally excited to see how his career goes in Oxford. Tons and tons of potential.
On3 says Jamarious Brown reminds it of former Texas and current Chicago Bears defensive lineman Henry Melton.
“Like Henry Melton, Jamarious Brown is a cat-quick, shorter defensive lineman who actually played some running back as a high school player.”
Back in December, Lane Kiffin talked about signing elite in-state targets like Brown and why it’s so important to the program and what he hopes to build.
“I think really big, which is obvious. Something that didn’t necessarily happen when we first got here. They were going away to play. I think we did a better job of that. Hope we continue to do that,” Kiffin said. “As guys come in and have success here, that will help that. I’m not going to get into NIL a whole lot and stuff but that had some effect before where I think it’s public knowledge that we’re in a little better position—we’re definitely in a better position than we were sitting up here a year ago.”
Ole Miss coordinator of recruiting strategy Kelvin Bolden recently spoke with OMSpirit on our #notcommitted podcast after national signing day. He might be a little biased, but he raved about the newest freshman in town.
“I’m ready to see Jamarious Brown,” Bolden said. “Everybody knows about Perkins. Everybody knows about Ayden Williams. Kedrick (Reescano). I’d like to see Jamarious come in and just really do what he does.”
“He has the mindset and the dog.”
“He’s tough. I’m ready to see his progress,” Bolden said. “He’s coming from Moss Point. Moss Point used to be a big-time, household name. They’re getting back to it. Definitely looking forward to seeing Jamarious come in and compete right away.”
