Hawkeye Halftime Report

It wasn’t always pretty, particularly in the passing game, but the Iowa Hawkeyes hold a 10-7 lead at the break against Purdue.

Iowa cashed in early against the Boilermakers. On their second drive of the game, Kaleb Johnson dashed off the left side for a 67 yard touchdown run. It was his first carry since the Iowa State game where he suffered a high ankle sprain. Last year Johnson rushed for 200 yards as a true freshman in West Lafayette and this time he had 110 yards in the first half.

Iowa also tacked on a field goal in the first half. Following a Cooper DeJean interception, Iowa’s drive inside the ten yard line stalled out after a fumbled snap resulted in a 15 loss on the play. Drew Stevens then hit a 27 yard field goal to give Iowa a 10-0 lead.

But, it wasn’t all good for the Hawkeyes. Purdue cashed in late in the first half with their only scoring drive of the day. The most significant play was the touchdown pass from Hudson Card to TJ Sheffeld. It was from 43 yards and Sheffeld did the bulk of the work slipping down the sidelines.

Iowa had 139 yards of total offense with 111 on the ground. Purdue had 174 yards of total offense with 122 in the air.
