Green Bay Packers release LB Jonathan Garvin hours after wishing him happy birthday
It appears the Green Bay Packers personnel team hasn’t been keeping the social media team up to date on their plans.
On Friday, the Packers social media accounts wished linebacker Jonathan Garvin a happy birthday as the former Miami standout turned 24. However, just hours later, the team announced they had released the 2020 seventh-round pick.
Garvin was entering his fourth season with Green Bay after signing a four-year, $3.37 million deal as a rookie.
Over his first three seasons in the league with the Packers, Garvin played in 38 games, contributing on defense and special teams. He had eight tackles in 2022 after posting 19 last season with 1.5 sacks. Despite his contributions, Garvin skipped most of the team’s offseason activities.
After a successful career at Miami, Garvin went No. 242 overall to Green Bay in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Matt LaFleur ‘really excited’ to see Jordan Love play Packers preseason games
Coach Matt LaFleur says that quarterback Jordan Love will receive many more snaps in preseason games this year. After serving as Aaron Rodgers‘ backup, he’s had very little opportunity for live reps so far in his career.
“There’s a lot of things I’d like to see out of him,” Matt LaFleur said of Jordan Love during a pre-training camp press conference. “It’s more or less just the process of becoming better each and every day and the command that he has. Certainly, you want to give him every opportunity.
“You can’t give him enough reps. Just making those incremental improvements and becoming more consistent on a daily basis. I’m really excited. He definitely has complete command of our offense. There’s no doubt about it. He’s put the work in, he knows the ins and outs. Now it’s going to apply that in a real situation.”
Love has 10 game appearances in three seasons. He’s completed 50 passes for 606 yards and three touchdowns.
