Georgia trending for 4-star EDGE Chase Linton following Rutgers decommitment

Georgia trending for 4-star EDGE Chase Linton following Rutgers decommitment

Early Saturday evening, North Atlanta four-star EDGE Chase Linton announced that he has decommitted from Rutgers.

The now former crown jewel of the Scarlet Knights’ 2025 class, Linton landed an offer from in-state Georgia at the end of July. The Bulldogs are now trending for another big Peach State recruiting win, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons have each logged picks in favor of UGA scooping up Linton’s pledge. Simmons reports that Linton will visit for the Bulldogs’ season-opener against Clemson on Aug. 31 in Atlanta and will also plan to visit UGA in Athens this fall.

“Georgia has been pushing for Linton since July. Kirby Smart and company can’t take all the great in-state players, but this is one they covet and it’s trending well,” Wiltfong said on Saturday.

Linton spoke with On3 after landing his offer, detailing where things stood in his recruitment.

“Since May 31, Georgia has been in consistent communication,” Linton said. “Now I have the offer and it is nice to feel appreciated. When Georgia offers, you feel seen. Especially being here in Georgia, when my family heard the news, they went ballistic.

“The Georgia offer gives me a lot to think about. Georgia is Georgia, but with Rutgers, I have some great relationships there. I like the coaches and I have some friends that are committed there, there is a lot for me to think about.”

Linton noted that distance from home was a factor that has been on his mind, giving another clear advantage to the Dawgs. Head coach Kirby Smart and Chidera Uzo-Diribe have also stood out to Linton as he weighs his options.

“It is about the opportunities I have. I will take some time, think about and see how it plays out,” Linton said on July 30.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder is the No. 244 overall prospect and No. 26 EDGE in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 35 player in Georgia. UGA’s 2025 class already features a pair of blue-chip EDGE commitments in Warner Robins (Ga.) five-star Isaiah Gibson and Hillside (N.J.) four-star Darren Ikinnagbon.
