Georgia rises to No. 2 in AP Poll behind new top-ranked team

The Week 9 AP Poll is out, and after a big win over Texas, Georgia is back towards the top. Coming in at No. 2, the Bulldogs are behind only Oregon – receiving two first place votes to the 59 of the Ducks.

It’s the first time since 2012 that Oregon has been in the top spot. Meanwhile, Texas fell to No. 5 after Georgia’s 30-15 victory in Austin on Saturday night.

The Longhorns are one of three teams in the top-10, and four in the top-15, on Georgia’s schedule. UGA has wins over Texas (No. 5), Clemson (No. 9) with a loss to Alabama (No. 15) while a date with Tennessee (No. 7) is still looming in November. Ole Miss, another matchup for the Bulldogs next month, is also ranked at No. 18.

The AP Poll falls in line with the Coaches Poll in the fact that Oregon rises to No. 1 with Georgia at No. 2. The 10 teams in the top-10 area also the same.

Georgia sits at 6-1 (4-1 SEC) after Saturday night’s impressive win over Texas with five games to go on the schedule. They’ll have a week to regroup before hitting the road to Jacksonville to take on rival Florida on Saturday, November 2nd (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC).

Kirby Smart Opening Statement After Win Over Texas

“Yeah, I was proud of the effort of our team tonight. I felt we had tremendous fan showing from our fans who showed up, and there’s a lot of them there. I thought the atmosphere was incredible. Anytime you play on the road in the SEC, it is. A lot of respect for Texas and their team. A lot of resilience with our team in terms of overcoming many obstacles, including some self-inflicted. Our inability to catch a ball was almost comical. But I was proud of our guys.

Nobody really gave us a chance. Everybody doubted us, and I really felt like we’d gotten better over the last three weeks. We played a good football team tonight. They’ll win some games. I told our kids coming into the game it was going to be a challenge. Win or lose, we weren’t out of it, and that’s the case now. We’re not in it, so it’s one of those things we’ve got to keep getting better.”
