Georgia reportedly signs Illinois RB Josh McCray and Miami DL Joshua Horton from transfer portal

Georgia has inked a pair of transfer portal targets per reports. The Bulldogs have inked Illinois running back Josh McCray and Miami defensive lineman Joshua Horton. Max Olson of ESPN was first to report McCray’s addition while Matt Zenitz of CBSSports reported the addition of Horton.
McCray piled up 609 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2024 on just 117 carries. He also caught 13 passes for 116 yards and a score. He had over 100 yards in the Illini’s win over South Carolina in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl at season’s end.
Horton is a Peach State native. He played high school ball at Langston Hughes and signed with the Hurricanes in the 2023 class. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that includes all four websites that publish recruiting rankings, Horton was the nation’s No. 421 overall prospect and No. 47 defensive lineman. He was the No. 42 player in Georgia.
He has appared in seven games in the past two years, tallying four total tackles and a half sack. He held an offer from Georgia at some point in his recruitment although it did not appear at the time that the Bulldogs ever pushed for a commitment.
According to the Langston Hughes High School’s MaxPreps page, Horton put up monster numbers in his senior season. He piled up 123 tackles for his defensive tackle position while picking up 10 tackles for loss. He also had four sacks and 13 quarterback hurries on the year. He had 81 total stops and seven tackles for loss as a junior.
At 6-foot-4 290 pounds, Horton could be a fit for UGA at multiple positions. He’s big enough to play inside at defensive tackle or he could slide outside to play defensive end in a five or 4i technique.
Georgia lost a pair of veteran defensive linemen at the end of the 2024 season. Warren Brinson and Nazir Stackhouse, after contributing at UGA for five seasons, exhausted their eligibility. The Bulldogs return Christen Miller, Jordan Hall, and Xzavier McLeod as the core of that group with Nasir Johnson, Nnamdi Ogboko, and Jordan Thomas all entering their second seasons. UGA also signed the nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle in the 2025 class, Elijah Griffin.
