Georgia remains in the hunt for five-star CB Charles Lester III

Georgia remains in the hunt for five-star CB Charles Lester III

Florida State is the school to knock off when it comes to the recruitment of five-star cornerback Charles Lester III.

But, with no final decisions made, there’s still time for the remainder of his top four, Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia, to continue to assert their position for the nation’s No. 13 overall prospect in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking.

“Georgia, I mean it’s still a hard fight. It’s a winning circle, too,” Lester told BamaInsider’s Joseph Hastings. “I was just there not long ago…a week or two weeks back. The push and the motivation around the university for the football team is one of none. They are what they say they are. Being able to come back and hang around campus showed me the standard of being there and what it takes to play for Coach Kirby [Smart] and Georgia.”

Part of that standard?

What the Dawgs did to get better this spring.

“I watched practice. It was a great one. It was a physical practice, organized,” Lester said.

And staffers were quick to let Lester know that they want him to be part of it all.

“I hung around with the coaches. I spent time with Coach Kirby,” he said. “We talked the basics, like how he wants me to come there and how coming to Georgia is a rare opportunity to get better and be coached by some of the best.”

And while winning isn’t an end all, be all from Lester’s point-of-view, he believes the level to which Georgia has done so speaks volumes as to what else is at play in athens.

“National Championships are great, but it doesn’t always have something to do with everything. I mean, only two teams go and only one wins,” he said. “It just lets you know the competitiveness of the team, and if they can win back-to-back, they have some type of consistency. There’s something they’re doing beyond the program that’s working.”

Perhaps the bigger deal? What happens for Georgia players after hoisting trophies.

“Outside of winning championships, they put people in the next level,” he said.

Currently, FSU is considered a 91.6-percent favorite for Charles Lester per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
