Georgia recruiting notes and observations from the road

Georgia recruiting notes and observations from the road

Monday was day one of a two-day run around the Atlanta area checking in on a few Georgia targets. My travels brought me into contact with a few younger Georgia targets in my four stops on Monday.

I hit stops at Langston Hughes, Newnan High School, Frederick Douglass High High School and Pebblebrook High School.

I took a few notes along the way. These tidbits will expand in the coming days.

4-star RB commit Dwight Phillips

Phillips committed to Georgia on Jan. 28. Georgia has since added a second running back commit in Chauncey Bowens. The Bulldogs are also in the final five for On3 five-star Nathaniel Frazier.

Phillips appears locked in no matter what. He feels like there’s little that can change his mind at this point. Phillips expects to be back in Athens on July 29 for Georgia’s end-of-summer visit.

There doesn’t appear to be any recruiting smoke here at the moment.

Phillips did drop a nugget that he’s going to again be used all over the field in his senior year of high school. The four-star is coming off another historic track season. Phillips improved on his personal best and knocked it down to a 10.26 in March.

2025 4-star safety Jontae Gilbert (Ohio State commit)

Gilbert was spotted wearing Georgia gloves on Monday. The No. 34 overall prospect in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking committed to Ohio State back on July 29, 2022. He’s remained locked in with the Buckeyes.

Gilbert was recently in Athens where he worked out for the Bulldogs. He expects to return to Athens for a game this fall. Gilbert has also heard from fellow 2025 four-star Jadon Perlotte a lot about joining the Georgia class.

2024 five-star quarterback commit Dylan Raiola has also been in contact with Gilbert working to flip the Ohio State commit to Georgia. Raiola too was an Ohio State commit at one point.

2025 four-star OL Dontrell Glover (Alabama commit)

There’s not a lot to see here. Glover is loving his commitment to Alabama. Glover, the No. 193 overall prospect in the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings, committed to the Crimson Tide back on April 13. He got an offer from Georgia early in the process as well.

Glover was on campus in Athens a few weeks back. He was able to have some positive conversations with Georgia’s coaching staff while on campus.

2025 WR Maurice Gleaton

Gleaton’s 10.16 on the track grabbed Georgia’s attention. Gleaton has grown up a huge Georgia fan. He has the Bulldogs high on his list as his recruitment begins to take shape.

2025 OT Tavaris Dice

Dice recently added the offer from Georgia while on campus for a camp. Dice and Georgia had flirted quite a bit over the last year.

He’s taken a liking to Stacy Searels. Dice’s cousin is Georgia freshman Kelton Smith. He’s also friends with another freshman, a former Langston Hughes star Bo Hughley.

Dice expects to have Georgia as one of his top schools throughout the process.

2026 LB Rodney Colton Jr.

Colton is a name Georgia fans need to get to know. He’s already picked up an offer from the Bulldogs. Colton has been on campus this summer.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker has coaches on Newnan’s staff raving about his upside. Colton was sporting Georgia gloves on Monday.

He already has started building a bond with Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann when he’s been on campus. Colton is intrigued by Georgia’s development opportunities. Colton expects Georgia to be in his recruitment for the long haul.
