Georgia pitcher Brian Curley taunts Kennesaw State base runner before final strike out in chaotic game

If anyone thought midweek baseball games couldn’t produce some compelling drama, they weren’t watching Georgia and Kennesaw State on Tuesday night.

The game had it all, including the ejection of a head coach and some you-have-to-see-it-to-believe-it taunting just before and after the game’s final pitch.

Let’s start with the latter before digging into the former.

With the tying run at first base and the winning run at the plate, Georgia’s Brian Curley stepped onto the mound. He had an 0-2 count, one strike away from putting a come-from-behind win to bed for the Bulldogs.

We’ll do our best to describe what happened next, but it’s probably best you see it for yourself below first.

Curley looks back over his shoulder at the lead runner on second base and sticks out his tongue, wagging it up and down a couple times before turning back and firing a picture-perfect strike to home.

Game over.

Curley then threw off his glove and motioned toward the first-base dugout as Georgia players streamed out in celebration.

Why so much energy for a midweek game against Kennesaw State? Well, that might go somewhat toward the umpiring.

Georgia coach Wes Johnson was tossed from the game in the top of the seventh inning, then escorted by police out of the stadium as fans jeered at him.

Johnson watched as a pitch-clock violation was called on Georgia pinch hitter Bryce Clavon. He came out to argue the call and was promptly ejected.

It wasn’t all bad news for Georgia, which trailed 4-2 at the time. Shortly after Johnson’s ejection, Slate Alford blasted a monster shot to left field to cut the deficit to 4-3.

The Bulldogs would go on to add a tying run in the eighth, before tacking on two more in the ninth to make it 6-4. Pitching, including the wacky job from Curley, would do the rest, holding on for the win.
