Georgia moves Kris Jones from inside linebacker to EDGE

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia has made a position change to help shore up the EDGE position. Sources told DawgsHQ earlier in the week that the Bulldogs would likely be moving redshirt freshman inside linebacker Kris Jones. We confirmed that on Thursday during the first media-viewing period of the spring.

Jones signed with Georgia in the 2024 class as a four-star prospect. At 6-foot-2 230 pounds, Jones was the nations No. 167 overall prospect and the No. 11 linebacker according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average of all four sites that publish recruiting rankings.

Georgia lost four outside linebacker/EDGE players at the end of the 2024 season. Mykel Williams and Jalon Walker are headed to the NFL where they’ll likely be first-round picks. Two more 2023 signees, Damon Wilson and Samuel M’Pemba, entered the transfer portal. Wilson landed at Missouri while M’Pemba moved on to Texas A&M.

On top of the departures, Gabe Harris will miss the spring after labrum surgery in January. Georgia has Quintavius Johnson, a sophomore, coming back. It also signed three freshmen in December — Isaiah Gibson, Darren Ikinnagbon and Chase Linton — all of whom are on campus.

Jones spent almost the entire 2024 season on the shelf after dealing with multiple injuries.
