Georgia Football vs. Ole Miss: Live updates, scores, highlights

OXFORD, Miss. — It’s a top-20 matchup between Georgia and Ole Miss today in Oxford with major College Football Playoff implications on the line. The Bulldogs enter the Magnolia State at 7-1 (5-1 SEC), well positioned for a spot in the Playoff as the nation’s third-ranked, second-seeded team currently. Meanwhile for the Rebels, it’s do or die time with two losses to their name and not much room for error.
“We’re excited about this opportunity to play in another road big game. Ole Miss has got a tremendous team. Lane (Kiffin)’s done an incredible job of getting talented players, big, physical,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said. “The improvement on defense for them is extremely noticeable. These guys are disruptive, powerful, fast, tons of sacks, tons of tackles for loss. I think Jaxson Dart is playing (like) probably one of the best quarterbacks playing in the country in terms of explosive plays. A lot of respect for how he competes. I mean, the guy runs extremely physical, like a SEC running back. He doesn’t try to avoid contact — he actually seeks it. You can tell he’s got a fiery, competitive attitude, just like his coach does, just like Lane does. So they have a lot of the same personality traits.
“Tremendous team that really should probably be undefeated. At the end of the day, they’ve had two really, really close games, both games that they could have easily won. So great challenge ahead, and our team’s looking forward to it.”

Georgia and Ole Miss played last season in Athens, and they’ll meet in the Classic City again next year. Last time they played in Oxford was Kirby Smart’s first season, 2016, when Hugh Freeze handed Smart his first career loss. However, all-time, Georgia owns the advantage including a dominant win last year. On the back of Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards, the Bulldogs rushed for 300 yards while Carson Beck threw for another 306 in a 52-17 win.

We’ve got boots on the ground and it’s a wet one here in Oxford. Made a trip through The Grove and folks are definitely excited for this one. Told by some around town that Ole Miss is expecting a record crowd and hundreds of thousands flooding into Oxford. Weather, plus what you would imagine were some fun nights had on Friday, has made for a later arriving group of fans but they started to show up as we headed to the stadium.
