Georgia commit Quintavius Johnson was always a ‘Georgia boy’

Atlanta (Ga.) Mays three-star defensive lineman Quintavius Johnson is a ‘Georgia boy’. That was the truth long before he committed to the Bulldogs on June 21.

Johnson only needed one visit to Athens to decide Georgia was where he wanted to be. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound defensive lineman took an official visit on June 16 and the rest was as they say, ‘history’.

“Where I’m from, I’m a Georgia boy automatically,” Johnson said. “Being that I’m from Georgia having a Georgia offer is big. Taking a chance and having a shot to be a Georgia player is big from where I come from.”

For Johnson, there were other major factors in why Georgia landed his commitment. Winning was a big thing for Johnson. Georiga is entering the 2023 season with back-to-back national championships on their resume.

“Being back-to-back national champions is not normal,” Johnson said.

Johnson was also wowed by the men he could be playing for when he gets to Athens. Johnson was heavily recruited by defensive line coach Tray Scott and outside linebacker coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe. Both coaches made an impact on Johnson due to how relatable they are as people.

“I think both of them are good guys that know what they are talking about,” Johnson said. “I made that decision based on the people that I was around up there. Those two guys are good men. Coach Diribe is young.”

Johnson plans on enrolling early at Georgia. He’s looking to try and get up to speed as soon as he can.

“I’m just looking to adapt to the environment and put in that work so I can be ready,” Johnson said.

Quintavius Johnson quickly getting a feel for other 2024 commits

Johnson has fit into Georiga’s 2024 class. Johnson has since built relationships within the class as many of the commits communicate through a group chat.

“We all chop it up and just bond with each other,” Johnson said. “We’re all different.”

He did his research on every player committed to the Bulldogs right after he committed. He needed to confirm that he was joining a group of like-minded individuals.

“Normal people don’t get Georgia offers, so you have to be different in some type of way,” Johnson said. “I wanted to see if they could play. I wanted to see if the guys had the same mentality that I have and do they move the way that I move. Those will be my teammates, so I wanted to know.”

Johnson got his answer.

“Basically everybody dominated,” Johnson said with a grin.
