Georgia commit Demarcus Riddick opens up on his status

Georgia linebacker commit Demarcus Riddick has been the subject of much discussion of late.
That’s because the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers are both working to ensure that the four-star defender and the nation’s No. 38 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking doesn’t end up in Athens.
But following his official visit to the Classic City last weekend, he was definitive on where the Bulldogs stand for him.
“I would say this (about Georgia): They’re still my No. 1 school,” Riddick told BamaOnLine’s Joseph Hastings. “You’ve got two other schools after me heavily in the same way as Georgia. Georgia is still my No. 1 school.”
That’s encouraging to hear from Riddick, who’s been committed to the Bulldogs since last November, but looming official visits to both Auburn and Alabama could still prove to be challenging for Georgia’s long-term hopes.
Nick Saban’s squad, in particular, looks to have some serious momentum.
“Alabama is a perfect school,” Riddick told Hastings. “At first, I didn’t really like Alabama like that. But when I got to build that relationship with the coaches and meet some of the players, I was like, ‘Oh, Alabama’s not that bad. I think I can possibly play here.’ I love that school… Alabama is the hometown.
“The first time I went, everything was like, ‘Wow, this is amazing,’” Riddick added. “I’ve been there so many times. I pretty much know where everything is.”
Demarcus Riddick is currently Georgia’s lone linebacker commitment of the Class of 2024.
