Georgia bracketology outlook: New NET ranking and seed projections

Georgia is firmly in the NCAA tournament after finishing the regular season with four straight wins. It lost to Oklahoma in the first round of the SEC tournament, but 20 wins and four Q1 victories has the Bulldogs ranked No. 33 in the latest NET rankings.

The brutal slate played by Mike White‘s team has certainly paid off. The Bulldogs had 15 games against Q1 opponents. They tied for the NCAA lead in top-10 teams played during the regular season and they played more top-10 teams on the road than any other team in the country. Georgia is battle tested and according to the latest bracket projections, little is changing.

The latest projections from On3’s James Fletcher have the Bulldogs as No. 9 seed where they would take on No. 8 Marquette in the first round. Should Georgia win that game, it would match up with No. 1 Houston in round two.

USAToday also has Georgia as a No. 9 seed where it will take on Gonzaga in the first round. If it wins that game, it would mean a matchup with No. 1 Houston for a chance to go to a Sweet 16.

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi also likes the Bulldogs to end up in Houston’s region. He also likes them as a No. 9 seed. He projects the Bulldogs to take on Memphis in round one followed by a matchup with the Cougars in the second round.

Jerry Palm of CBSSports also has Georgia in Houston’s region but he thinks the Bulldogs get a different seed. He projects UGA as a No. 10 seed where it would play No. 7-seeded Kansas in round one. Instead of having to matchup with Houston with a win, Georgia would take on Tennessee.

The SEC, along with several other conferences, will wrap up it’s conference tournament on Sunday. The NCAA Tournament selection show will take place on Sunday night. It’s set for a 6 p.m. start on CBS.
