Georgia Amoore named First Team SEC, Clara Strack wins SEC DPOY
A pair of Virginia Tech transfers came into the Southeastern Conference and dominated right away for Kentucky women’s basketball.
On Tuesday, the SEC announced 2024-25 regular season accolades. Fifth-year point guard Georgia Amoore was one of nine players named First Team SEC while sophomore center Clara Strack was one of nine players tabbed Second Team SEC. She also won the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award and was one of six players to make the All-Defensive Team. Amoore was also named the SEC’s Newcomer of the Year.
Amoore, who is a finalist for multiple national awards, is averaging 18.8 points and a league-leading 6.9 assists in 36.2 minutes per game during her lone season with the Wildcats. Strack is second on the team in scoring at 15.3 points per game in addition to her 9.5 rebounds and SEC-high 2.5 blocks per outing.
Behind the efforts of Amoore and Strack, new head coach Kenny Brooks, who brought those two over to Lexington with him from Virginia Tech, has Kentucky back in the national conversation. The Wildcats finished the 2024-25 season with a 22-6 overall record (11-5 SEC), good enough to secure a double-bye in this week’s SEC Tournament. UK will play on Friday afternoon (2:30 p.m. EST on ESPN) in Greenville, SC with a first-round matchup against the winner of Oklahoma and Arkansas/Georgia.
