Georgia adds on, rolls to mid-week win ahead of road trip

Georgia (29-2, 8-1 SEC) baseball is knocking on the door of 30. The Bulldogs slugged their way to a 21-1 win over Queen’s University on Tuesday evening.
It was win number 29 so far this season and number nine in a row. Like they have for much of the season so far, Georgia got a star performance from a group of new heroes.
Slate Alford pounded two home runs to get the momentum cooking on Tuesday. Alford pounded the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the first. He later added to Georgia’s lead with a two-run blast in the bottom of the second inning. Alford drove in five runs.
Robbie Burnett was 2-for-5 with two home runs that helped him to six RBIs. Burnett now leads the team in home runs with 15 on the season.
Devin Obee was 1-for-2 with a grand slam. Kolby Branch was 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored.
Georgia helped on the mound
It was a bullpen day for Georgia on the mound. The Bulldogs used seven pitchers to cover the seven innings of work required on Tuesday.
Georgia started Zach Harris. They trotted out Jordan Stephens, Davis Chastain, Zach Brown, Alton Davis, Nate Taylor and Justin Byrd to take care of the seven innings.
The group’s effort came together to allow only four hits, one run and struck out seven hitters.
Notable quotes from head coach Wes Johnson
Johnson praises Bulldogs for responding after emotional weekend: “I challenged our guys really hard. You know, it’s really easy coming off of a series we just had. It was very a emotional, long day on Saturday. Then looking forward to obviously, you know, there’s a lot of hype around our series this weekend that people can lose focus. I really, really challenged them today to lock in, stay focused, respect the game, play it one pitch at a time, and I think we did that.”
Johnson looks ahead to Texas series: “It’s still a game. There’s nothing bigger or whatever. You got to go out, you got to stay focused, just like they were tonight. I mean, I think part of the things that happen, the guys can make things too big. They’ll get outside their approach, they’ll try to hit five-run homers with nobody on, and they’ll try to strike out the side when there’s nobody out with the guy in the box. So just try to keep them right here and understand we just got to go play baseball, play our game if we can and we’ll be in every game we play.”
What’s next?
Georgia will return to the road for this weekend’s SEC series. Georgia will head to Austin to face No. 5 Texas beginning on Friday. It will be a three-game set. Game one gets going at 7:30 p.m., game two at 3 p.m. and game three at 2 p.m.
