Gators set to make appearance at Northeast school filled with Florida targets
Mark another confirmed stop on the recruiting trail for Gators inside linebackers coach Jay Bateman.
Gators Online has learned that Florida will be making a stop at Olney (Md.) Good Counsel on Wednesday. That is home to a handful of Gators targets across multiple classes who were previously offered.
One of them is On300 linebacker, Aaron Chiles, who has an official visit booked for June 9-11. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound junior is one of Bateman’s top targets this cycle. The Gators already boast one of the premier linebacker classes, but adding a prospect like Chiles would catapult it to new heights.
In addition to the Gators, the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 8 linebacker possesses offers from Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, Michigan, Clemson, Notre Dame, USC and Texas among others.
According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Michigan is trending heavily with odds of 93.6 percent. The Wolverines, Clemson and Notre Dame have official visits set for June as well.
I’m favoring Jim Harbaugh’s program myself, but the Gators are definitely a player here. Chiles’ relationships with Napier and Bateman are very strong, so his official visit could go a long way.
Another notable prospect at Good Counsel is 6-foot-6, 240-pound Darien Mayo. The Gators offered him in January when outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson dropped by the school. The EDGE talent is a top-100 prospect overall with On3 and equipped with a high ceiling at the position.
As for Mayo’s official visits, Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson and USC have secured dates for June. There is a chance he makes it down to Gainesville as well; however, UF is further down the list right now.
After visiting earlier this month, 6-foot-4 wide receiver Elijah Moore also holds an offer from the Gators. He is a three-star prospect but could very well climb the rankings before signing in December.
Additional schools in pursuit include Michigan, Ohio State, USC, Florida State, Oregon, Texas A&M, Miami, Wisconsin and Kentucky among many others. Penn State, however, is the school generating the most buzz right now. That percentage in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine is sitting at 42.7.
When Peterson visited Good Counsel in January, he offered On300 running back Dilin Jones as well.
However, the Gators now hold commitments from multiple running backs. They are still recruiting additional prospects at the position, but getting Jones down to Gainesville for a visit is the first step. Until then, I would chalk this one up as a long shot.
Then you have Faheem Delane, one of the top safeties in the 2025 class. Like Mayo and Jones, he was also offered by the Gators in January.
Delane, the 90th-ranked sophomore in the On3 Industry Ranking, was supposed to visit UF in March; how those plans ultimately fell through. He plans to reschedule that trip in the future.
Right now, Alabama is the school leading in Delane’s recruitment. Additional suitors include Ohio State, USC, LSU, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M and FSU among others.
Stay tuned to Gators Online.
