Gators recruiting intel from the On3 Elite Series

NASHVILLE, TENN. — Gators Online is live at this year’s On3 Elite Series media day, an event that brings together many of the country’s top football recruits. Below, we will post intel and Keith Niebuhr’s thoughts on multiple Florida Gators targets.

Let’s get started ….

*Four-star linebacker Tavion Wallace of Jesup (Ga.) Wayne County calls Florida State his leader heading into his upcoming official visits. But, he added, the margin between the Seminoles and Florida Gators is paper thin. His officials are to Arkansas (May 31), Georgia (June 7), Florida (June 14) and FSU (June 21). Georgia rounds out Wallace’s top three. Of note, Wallace’s father willl join him on his official visit to Gainesville and that visit is during dad’s birthday weekend. Trevor Wallace, as we’ve pointed out before, is a longtime die-hard Gators fan. Florida State was on Tavion early and that helped give the ‘Noles the edge, but Florida has worked hard to make this a neck-and-neck battle and it still could go either way. Wallace will have a commitment decision in July.

*5-star safety Trey McNutt of Shaker Heights (Ohio) will officially visit the Gators next weekend. Ohio State is the On3 RPM favorite, but we’ve talked to a few people who think there are multiple contenders. McNutt visited the Gators in April, so it’s significant to get him back on campus again so soon.

*Florida almost certainly will not be the choice for 5-star receiver Jaime Ffrench of Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin. A few weeks ago, he told Gators Online that the Gators would likely get an official visit. But Tuesday, he said that’s no longer the case. And with a commitment decision coming in August, Florida simply isn’t much of a factor right now. Texas leads (big) and is followed by LSU and then Tenessee.
