Gamecocks add grad transfer defensive end

South Carolina football added another potential impact player to its EDGE position today when UAB graduate transfer Drew Tuazama committed to the Gamecocks.

The 6-foot-5, 285-pounder appeared in all 13 games this past season for UAB, collecting a team-high five sacks to go along with 33 total tackles, three pass breakups, and three quarterback hurries.

A Raleigh, N.C. native, Tuazama was a three-star prospect out of Knightsdale High School before spending a season at Jireh Prep. Tuazama then signed with Syracuse and after a bounce-back year at East Mississippi Community College landed at UAB as a redshirt junior this past season.

A versatile defender, Tuazama played all over the defensive line for UAB and came on strong in the latter part of the season.

Tuazama should provide immediate help at an EDGE spot that lost Jordan Burch and Gilber Edmond from last year’s squad.

Former starter Jordan Strachan has returned from a severe knee injury that forced him to miss most of last season and is expected to be a starter at one end spot.

Tuazama will likely compete for a starting position opposite Strachan.
