Freshman participation tracker: Tennessee-Florida
Tennessee dropped its first game of the season on Saturday in Gainesville (Fla.) as the Vols early season hype was dampened by the 29-16 defeat. The SEC contest did not allow much opportunity to the 2023 Freshmen class. Volquest tracks the weekly freshman participation from the first conference game of the season for the Vols.

Carter continues too see consistent action
Tennessee freshman linebacker Arion Carter has continued to see plenty of action throughout the first three games of his time at Tennessee. With Keenan Pili missing time due to an injury, Carter has been even more vital to Tennessee’s rotation. Elijah Herring continues to start the game, but Carter finds his way onto the field quickly. In his 19 snaps on Saturday night, he graded out as Tennessee’s highest overall defender. His role will likely continue to grow. Carter was credited for four total tackles on Saturday night.
Gibson sees double-digit snaps
Rickey Gibson saw early action in The Swamp. He checked in during the second quarter. He played 11 overall snaps, four of which were runs and seven of which were passes. Gibson missed a tackle but Florida did not throw at him at any point while he was on the field. Gibson received some early praise during fall camp, and the fact Tennessee went to him early on Saturday night, indicates the Vols staff has some level of trust for the freshman.
