Four-Star SG Kiyan Anthony, son of Carmelo Anthony, sets first two official visits; breaks down schools

Kiyan Anthony, the No. 35 player in the 2025 On3 150, was invited to the 2023 USA Basketball Junior National Team October Minicamp. Anthony’s father, Carmelo Anthony, is a multiple-time medal winner with the USA Basketball program. This is Kiyan’s first time participating with USA Basketball.

“My objective is just to prove to everybody I’m more than just a scorer,” Anthony told On3. “I can really defend, rebound, whatever…because at USA, everybody that makes the team is gonna be able to score, so whatever the coaches need me to do to fill that role, that’s what I’m gonna do.”

Anthony, a junior at Long Island (NY) Long Island Lutheran, averaged 15.9 points on almost two three-point makes per contest with the Team Melo program on Nike’s EYBL 16U Circuit.

“I’ve definitely improved my body,” Anthony said. “I’ve been in the weight room more than ever. I feel like I’m able to create contact way easier now, and I can find it easier to score into the basket and stuff like that. And I’ve definitely improved shooting the ball. I’ve been in the gym a lot, really working on my game.

“I watch a lot of dad, of course. Paul George, Donovan Mitchell, and Anthony Edwards, too. I feel like i’m gonna have their size — 6’7, 6’8 — just their ability to handle the ball and really their athleticism, that’s what I really look forward to, their defensive mentality, they have the mentality that nobody is going to be better than them and i’m trying to get there, too.”

On3 caught up with four-star Kiyan Anthony at the USA Basketball Junior Minicamp to dive into his recruitment.

Anthony Sets Florida State and Syracuse Visits

“My first visit is next week to Florida State,” Anthony said. “Then the week after, I have Syracuse. Both officials, those are going to be my first two visits, then I’m gonna hold off for the season and wait until after the season.”

Florida State: “Coach (Kevin) Nickelberry, that’s my guy, that’s my dad’s friend. I’m really just looking forward to going over there, seeing the campus, seeing what the practice is like, the chemistry. I’m looking forward to it.

“They develop big guards. I feel like i’m gonna be a big guard by the time next year comes, cause I just turned 16. I still have a lot of growing to do. They put players in the draft, you know, Dwayne Bacon, Terance Mann, players like that. So, if I have the chance to go there, if the time is right, if the place is right, that’s the goal.”

Syracuse: “Coach (Adrian) Autry, that’s my guy. The whole coaching staff, coach Brenden (Straughn), G-Mac (Gerry McNamara), all of those are my guys. They’re really like family, so looking forward to going over there, too.

“It’s no pressure going there. I know wherever I go, I’m just gonna go there and play my game. But my dad always tells me, ‘Don’t feel like you got to go to Syracuse just because I went there. Really look into these colleges and choose where you want to go.’ So that’s what I’m really looking forward to doing.”

Anthony Talks Recruitment and Future Visits

“I got Florida State this weekend, Syracuse the week after,” Anthony said. “And other schools like Indiana and Michigan, I’m definitely gonna take an official visit after the season to them.”

Michigan: “Jett Howard, he played there last year; that’s my close friend, so him being over there, being a big guard, being able to facilitate and score and do what he does. Juwan (Howard) is a great coach. They go to the tournament every year and really make statements in the tournament. I’m looking forward to it.”

Indiana: “Mike Woodson, that’s like my Godfather, I remember being a little kid, just being with him and stuff like that. My relationship, I’m looking forward to going over there — and if I was to go there, just him to be pushing me and stuff and working out with him.”

*Kiyan Anthony’s dad, Carmelo Anthony, played for Mike Woodson with the New York Knicks from the 2011-12 to 2013-14 season.

“I’ve been talking to people like Providence, Seton Hall, St. John’s — they haven’t offered me yet — Kentucky — they haven’t offered me yet, either — just seeing all these recruiters coming to practice and stuff, showing a lot of love,” Anthony said.

“I’m looking for a family-oriented school and a winning school,” Kiyan Anthony said. “I want to go to a school with players that I know of and stuff like that. I’m trying to win, so if the place is right, then I’ll go; if the players want me to come and the coaches and it feels right, then that’s when I will make my decision.”
