Four-star QB sets return visit to Gamecocks

Findlay (Ohio) passer Ryan Montgomery will take in a Gamecocks home football contest this season, GamecockCentral.com learned on Wednesday.

The four-star prospect picked up an official from USC offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains the day after Loggains watched him throw in person.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder was on campus this spring checking out Shane Beamer’s program.

“It was great to spend the day with Coach Loggains,” Montgomery told GamecockCentral at the time. “His NFL background is super interesting. He has a lot of energy just like Coach (Shane) Beamer. The highlight for me was sitting in on the QB meeting and learning about their offense.”

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) currently has Ohio State as the leader for Montgomery’s services with just over a 23 percent chance to land him.

The South Carolina Gamecocks, according to sources, are a major contender for Montgomery as well.

“(Shane Beamer) is great,” Montgomery told GamecockCentral.com back in April. “His energy is awesome. I have no doubt we will be successful at South Carolina. They really had a great year last season and are looking to be even better. It seems like they are recruiting at a very high level as well.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking – a weighted average of all four major services – Montgomery checks in as the nation’s number 209 prospect regardless of position.

He is additionally ranked as the 15th-best quarterback in the country and as the 8th-best prospect in the state of Ohio for the 2025 class.

His brother, Luke Montgomery, is an offensive lineman at Ohio State.
The Gamecocks also have 2025 quarterback offers out to Deuce Knight (Mississippi) and Will Wilson (South Carolina), with the latter having made a verbal commitment to North Carolina State. Alabama’s KJ Lacy, a Texas commitment, also landed a scholarship offer a while back.
